Don’t Kill YOU

I’m writing a blog post somebody shout hallelujah! It’s being ages but I’m glad to be back really. This is going to be a short one and hopefully my absence will be explained in my writing but I’ve had the strong urge to write this more for myself than the world and today finally I’ve gathered the courage.

The topic looks funny eh! I know. For the purpose of this post I’d like to give a different meaning to “YOU”. YOU as far as this post is concerned refers to what makes you YOU.

Its those things that make Nenkinan Nenkinan and Favour Favour. You is your spirit. Your talents, your passions, your desires, the things that ignite you, the fires that only you can spark. You is what you bring to the table. You can be a writer, a doctor, and a poet, whatever. It’s a combination of the elements that make you.

In recent months, there’s been a spike in suicide cases and it’s very saddening. The conversation around suicide is so much and I hear things that are insensitive but that’s not my talk today. Depression is eating up people around the globe. The devil is working so hard — in the words of Chance the Rapper — “Devil would win employee of the month”.

Today I want to introduce another — lesser spoke of -type of Suicide. Killing You.

This kind of suicide is actually more rampart and that was what I went through. It’s losing your fire and losing you. This kind of suicide is losing your vibe and just existing. And it’s deadly because the day you cease to live to your purpose is the death of you’

Depression is a deep hole of darkness we all dread and fight. It’s like a recurrent illness for some of us and it leads us to this deeper vale of death. You find yourself doing nothing except what’s completely necessary like eating and talking and going to school. Every morning becomes “Dang another morning! I thought yesterday was the last. OK I’m not going to kill myself so I’m just going to drag through another day and wait till Pop say its time”. The reality of this kind of death came after watching a conversation between Sam Collier, Tedashii, Lecrae, Shanti Das, DJ Wade-O and Benjamin Wills about never folding coined from Tedashii’s new album I totally recommend both video and album.

Folks, I’m saying this to myself and you — You cannot afford to die. The world needs your voice and input. There is so much greatness in you waiting to flow out — it just needs you to open the tap.

The devil will do everything to overpower your light with the darkness of sadness and joylessness but you have to shine through and let the world see your light. Shine that’s what you were created to do. You are on this earth till you fulfill your purpose completely so suck it in and go through the hard times pushing. Phew! I said It.

This won’t be easy but we have to do this. It’s a battle we fight and we will be victorious!

I’m going to write this here so I don’t slack. I turn 21 in some months and I want to write a book on depression and the ways to live through it from my seasons of darkness. I believe God let me pass those waters to help others. Pray for me as I embark that journey.

In conclusion, you were created to LIVE so LIVE and be full of LIFE. And if you feel down listen to Never Fold. Love and Light.’
